OK, as a wiki neophyte, I am going to confess to being a little hesitant about this "but what's the worst that could happen?" (I think somebody working on the Manhattan Project coined that phrase). As this site is being promoted as an attempt to bring teachers together in a community of learning, what better way is there than to practice?

Anyway let me begin by stating a bit about myself and also what I hope to gain by participating in this community. I am currently in my 20th year of teaching. My degree is in secondary history, however, my "nerd" tendencies have led me in various paths. I have taught some high school, some elementary, but the bulk of my time has been in the "trenches" of junior high. For the last 10 years I have mainly taught math and information processing to grades 7 - 9 in a Christian school in Alberta. I am also the school's technology coordinator so a good deal of my time is spent in serving the network administrator, help desk, hardware technician and general I.T. dept.

About a year ago I became involved in assisting the Prairie Association of Christian Schools (PACS) in setting up an online professional development community for Social Studies teachers to develop new curriculum. After some initial research in became apparent that, thanks to Web 2.0, there was an incredible (and somewhat confusing) range of options for creating online communities. After some fumbling attempts, a former colleague invited me to create this wiki as an opportunity to learn more about online communities and also a place to share ideas about using technology in the classroom.
